Pre-Doc Center at Danang University

According to Decision No 335/QD_BGDĐT dated 21/01/2008 by Minister of Education and Training, the University of Danang (UD) is mandated to design and develop pre-departure training programs in English language and research methodology for university and college lecturers before they are sent abroad for further study.
1. Training programs

a. Foreign language training and development
  • UD is committed to training candidates of Project 322 in ability to use English, French, Russian, Chinese and Japanese for them to meet or exceed the minimum foreign language requirement for overseas study.
  • English language training courses include courses of general English, TOEFL iBT, TOEFL PBT and IELTS preparation. The aim of these courses is for students to achieve a TOEFL PBT score of 550, TOEFL iBT score of 80, and IELTS score of 6.5 or more. Classes are conducted by well-trained lecturers who have extensive experience in TOEFL and IELTS preparation working at the English Language Department of the College of Foreign Languages, the UQ-UD English Language Institute and twenty other language experts coming from the USA, Australia and Canada and working at UD.
  • French language courses include DELF A1, DELF A2, DELF B1, DELF B2, DALF C1 and DALF C2. These courses are taken charge of by lecturers of the French Language Department of the College of
  • Foreign Languages and other language experts coming from the UD-based AUF Center.
  • Besides, UD also offers upon demand training courses in Russian, Chinese and Japanese, ranging from beginner to advanced level. These courses are delivered by lecturers coming from the Russian, Chinese and Japanese Language Department of the College of Foreign Languages, UD.
  • All lecturers hold a Master Degree and/or a Doctoral degree in the fields of linguistics, applied linguistics, foreign language methodology granted by a British, Australian, American, Netherlands, and Canadian, French, Russian, Chinese or Japanese university.

b. Other skills
  • Enhance learners' knowledge and skills in how to conduct a research, how to write a research proposal, an essay and other academic skills such as how to participate successfully in a class presentation and a group discussion and so on.
  • Enhance learners' awareness of political ideology and other regulations for Vietnamese overseas students. Participants also have the opportunity to participate in other pre-departure orientation activities.  
  • Equip participants with some other academic skills such as how to use a library, email or the internet, how to a develop self-study program and how to study, how to communicate with academic advisors, lecturers, including tutors.
  • Enhance participants' knowledge of foreign cultures and life skills including seeking part-time employment in the destination country.
Thanks to the strong bonds that UD has developed with many universities all over the world as well as with foreign diplomatic agencies in Vietnam, UD will definitely be a good source that participants should resort to for advice on their choice of school, invitation letter application, cost estimation, and visa application.

2. Facilities


All courses are delivered at UD's ELI Building, 41 Le Duan Street, which is located right in the center of Danang City, harboring the poetic Han River, which is quite convenient for participants in their commuting. The facilities that support teaching and learning activities include:
  • 40 spacious and airy air-conditioned rooms
  • 3 multimedia laboratories with state-of-the-art audio and visual systems. Each lab can house up to 30 people.
  • 120 Dell computers connected with the Vinaren educational and research network, with 145 Mbps transfer speed and a 20 Mbps leased line, which participants can use in their search for materials and language practice (listening).
  • A high-speed wi-fi system which operate 24/7 and free to serve students who have the demand to access the internet via their own personal computer.
  • Classrooms are fully equipped with a computer, a LCD projector, a television set, and a cassette player.
  • Participants are also allowed to use research materials at UD Information and Learning Resource Center, the AUF Language Center, and British Council's Learning Resource Center which is set inside the ELI Building. Resources of these three centers include foreign language learning books and textbooks, newspapers and magazines, special periodicals, audio-visual tapes, CDs and VCDs, which are frequently updated with the support of the US Embassy's Cultural Section, British Council and French Embassy to Vietnam.
  • Mobility between floors is completely by means of lifts. In case of an unexpected blackout, ELI's standby electric generator will automatically be operated to maintain the operation of the lifts and the building's central air conditioning system, providing students with ease in their mobility and study.
3. Recruitment

UD would welcome participants from all parts of Vietnam. With a state-of-the-art spacious and airy dormitory system, UD will arrange accommodation for participants coming from other cities and provinces (than Danang) upon demand.

Since the beginning of 2008, UD has organized successfully two one-month TOEFL preparation courses and one Chinese language tow-month training course for participants coming from the Central Region and Central Highlands of Vietnam. The majority of the participants achieve high results at the end of the course and some were granted scholarships for overseas studies in 2008 by Ministry of Education and Training.
